Ireland annouces its Budget 2012 today. This will be another tough one although Ireland is in good shape and is going in the right direction. Even German newspapers such as Spiegel Online realize that as you can see here .  Irland stellt heute seinen Haushalt für 2012 vor. Es wird wieder mal ein strammer Plan obwohl Irland sich auf dem richtigen Weg befindet. Auch deutsche Zeitungen wie zum Beispiel Spiegel Online bemerken dies wie man hier  nachlesen kann. 

Finally we made to visit Carrickfergus Castle on last Saturday. Ireland however presented itself in style - with storm and rain. Some pictures to follow.  Am vergangenen Samstag haben wir es endlich geschafft uns das Carrickfergus Castle anzusehen. Irland hat sich allerdings von seiner besten Seite gezeigt - mit Sturm und Regen. Einige Bilder folgen schon bald. 

We always planned to visit Carrickfergus Castle , but we never made it. On the upcoming Saturday, we'll finally heading towards North.    Wir haben immer geplant uns das Carrickfergus Castle anzusehen. Nie hat es geklappt. Am kommenden Samstag geht es nun endlich Richting Norden. 

We wrapped up our tour 2011 in Düsseldorf about three weeks ago. However we'll return the city on February 9th, 2012 to kick off our Germany tour 2012 that we lead us from Düsseldorf to Dingelstädt, Arnstadt, Munich, Laichingen and will come to a close in Stuttgart. These few stops are the only stops abroad for the next year. Vor circa drei Wochen haben wir unsere Tour 2011 in Düsseldorf beendet. Wir werden jedoch am 9. Februar 2012 wieder dorthin zurückkehren um unsere Deutschland Tour 2012 zu starten. Dieses Mal geht es von Düsseldorf nach Dingelstädt, Arnstadt, München, Laichingen und kommt in Stuttgart zum Abschluss. Diese Stops sind die einzigen ausserhalb Irlands für das nächste Jahr.

We're back from Düsseldorf, Michael D. Higgins has been elected as the 9th president of the Republic Of Ireland and finally today is Halloween.  Wir sind zurück aus Düsseldorf,  Michael D. Higgins wurde zum 9. Präsidenten der Republik Irland gewählt und heute ist auch noch Halloween. 

Ireland will elect  a new president on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Six candidates have been nominated. More information on that can be found here .  Irland wählt am Donnerstag, den 27. Oktober 2011 ein neues Staatsoberhaupt. Sechs Kandidaten stellen sich zur Wahl. Mehr Informationen dazu gibt es hier . 

Discovering Ireland - a day trip trough the Wicklow Mountains, passing the Wicklow Gap will be on the bill for later this month. Frequent visitors - also later this month we'll visit Düsseldorf one more time. Endecke Irland - Einen Tagestrip durch die Wicklower Berge, über den Wicklow Gap steht auf dem Plan für den späteren Oktober. Regelmässige Besucher - Auch für den späteren Oktober ist ein Mal wieder Düsseldorf an der Reihe.

Ireland expects an "Indian" summer with temperatures up to 22 degrees in the next couple of days. Maybe the last chance to have a BBQ this year... Irland erwartet einen "indischen" Sommer mit Temperaturen von bis zu 22 Grad in den nächsten Tagen. Vielleicht die letzte Chance für ein Barbecue in diesem Jahr...

Next Friday, September 23rd, we'll get the chance to watch "Thriller Live" at the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin. This musical, directly from London's Westend, will be a two and half hour celebration featuring the music from the Jackson Five and the undisputed King Of Pop.  Am Freitag, den 23. September werden wir die Chance bekommen uns "Thriller Live" im Dubliner Grand Canal Theatre anzusehen. Dieses Musical, direkt vom Londoner Westend, ist eine zweieinhalb Stunden Show mit Musik von den Jackson Five und dem unangefochtenen King Of Pop. 

Just a short distance drive of around 50km and we'll approach Trim. On the upcoming Sunday we plan to visit the traditional county town of County Meath with it's castle and Newtown Abbey.       Am kommenden Sonntag geht es zu einem Ausflug nach Trim. Trim ist die traditionelle Haupstadt der Grafschaft Meath und bietet unter anderem eine Burg und die Newtown Abtei.

We'll see two of Europe's leading Rugby Union teams this Saturday, August 20th, 2011 at Dublin's Aviva Stadium. Ireland hosts France as part of the " Guinness Summer Series " that are some kind of a warm up series for the Rugby Worldcup due to kick off in September in New Zealand.  Wir werden uns am Samstag, den 20. August 2011 zwei der besten Rugby Teams Europas im Dubliner Aviva Stadium ansehen. Irland empfängt Frankreich als Teil der " Guinness Summer Series ", welche als eine Art Aufwärm-Serie für die Rugby Weltmeisterschaft im September in Neuseeland gesehen werden kann. 

We've finally gotten around to sorting our 1000+ photos from our Big Apple & Philadelphia trip. As you might already know, we stayed at the Homewood Suites hotel in New Jersey and shuttled to Manhattan daily with the NY Waterway ferry service. After settling in on the first day, we attended a Harlem Gospel brunch at BB Kings on Times Square followed by the Empire State Building observatory and Madison Garden. On Monday, we started the day in Harlem then walked half of Central Park, went up the Rockefeller Center observatory and St. Patrick's Cathedral. Tuesday was dedicated to shopping at the Woodbury Premium Outlet with 220 designer shops! We spent Wednesday swimming at the Robert Moses State Park in Long Island and ended the day at Aretha Franklin's concert at Jones Beach. We then drove to Philadelphia on Thursday and completed our Manhattan tour on Friday by visiting China town/Little Italy, the Stock Exchange and bought a few souvenirs (including t...

After a week in the current US heat wave (average temperature of 35 degrees) we're just back from New York. Summer didn't arrive in Ireland yet, currently 18 degrees. However we'll escape this coldness towards New York City that will present itself with 33 degrees and sunshine if we trust the latest forecast. Ten days to go until we board flight IE0105... In Irland ist bis jetzt der Sommer noch nicht angekommen, mickrige 18 Grad im Moment. Next week there are two live concerts to enjoy. On Monday, we'll see Ziggy Marley at Dublin's 'Vicar Street' ( see previous post ) and on Friday we'll make it to the 'Tripod' to see American HipHop supergroup Wu Tang Clan live in concert.  Nächste Woche sehen wir uns gleich zwei Live-Gigs an. Am Montag geht es in die 'Vicar Street' in Dublin, wo Ziggy Marley ein Konzert gibt ( siehe den vorangegangen Eintrag ) und am Freitag gibts ein Konzert der amerikanischen HipHip Supergroup Wu Tang Clan im 'Tripod' .  

We'll head off to Dublin's 'Vicar Street' on Monday, June 27, 2011 to see the oldest son of Rita and Bob Marley - Ziggy Marley . As we were away on vacation, Ireland was honored to host two historical state visitors in a row. If you missed the buzz, here are the speeches from both Barack Obama and the Queen as they visited Ireland in  May.   Der Mai war ein sehr interessanter Monat fuer Irland, da wir  die Ehre hatten, zwei wichtige und historische Staatsbesuche auf der kleinen gruenen Insel willkommen zu heissen. After a hot and relaxing week in Mallorca, Spain, we are now struggling to get back to work and 'normal' life. This was one of the first vacations in which we decided not hire a car or do much sightseeing, but just chill out at the beachside and relax as much as possible. However, after the first 3 days of sunbathing, swimming, eating/drinking at the famous German locations not far from our hotel e.g. Oberbayern and Bierkoenig (beer king), we decided to tour Palma city by bus.  The next day, we decided to go for more adventure and ended up hiring a scooter and drove through the villages (and even on the motorway!) all the way to Santa Ponça, Calvià.  Here are some of the photos we took, enjoy! Next Wednesday, British arena rock superstars Def Leppard, American shock rocker Alice Cooper and Irish veterans Thin Lizzy will share the stage at Dublin's " The O2 ". We are looking forward to a night of Classic Rock.  Am kommenden Mittwoch werden sich die britischen Arena-Rock Superstars Def Leppard, der amerikanische Schockrocker Alice Cooper und die irischen Veteranen von Thin Lizzy die Bühne im Dubliner " The O2 " teilen. Wir sind gespannt auf einen Abend voller klassischem Rock.

Up next weekend, our trip to the Balearic island of Mallorca. We're really anxious to see "Germany's 17th federal state" as we reside between Palma De Mallorca and the well known S'Arenal.      Nächstes Wochenende geht es auf die Balearen, nach Mallorca. Wir sind wirklich auf "Deutschland's 17. Bundesland" gespannt, weil auch unser Hotel genau zwischen Palma De Mallorca und dem berühmt-berüchtigten S'Arenal liegt.

We're back from Düsseldorf, Caroline works from New York City this week. Up next at the end of May, our 2nd last trip in 2011: Mallorca. This year is a relatively quiet year in terms of travelling compared to the last two years. However, we have decided to discover unknown territory in 2012... Wir sind zurück aus Düsseldorf, Caroline arbeitet in New York City diese Woche. Als nächstes steht unser vorletzter Trip für 2011 Ende des Monats an: Mallorca. Dieses Jahr ist relativ ruhig im Bezug auf Reisen im Vergleich zu den vergangenen zwei Jahren. Jedoch haben wir beschlossen, 2012 uns auf ungewohntes Territorium zu begeben...

Next up is a short city break in Düsseldorf for the next three days. Die nächsten drei Tage werden wir in Düsseldorf verbringen.

Like every year around Easter time, our traditional Ireland trip is up next. This time we will visit Northern Ireland - the famous Carrickfergus Castle , Country Antrim, around 11 miles northeast of Belfast.  Wie jedes Jahr um die Osterzeit steht nun unser traditioneller Irland Trip auf dem Programm. Dieses Jahr werden wir uns nach Nordirland begeben und uns das berühmte Carrickfergus Castle in der Grafschaft Antrim, ungefähr 11 Meilen nordöstlich von Belfast anzusehen.

It's been already a week since we got back from Rome. Although we spent just one night, we managed to see the most relevant sights from our city center accommodation in the Residenza Torre Colonna hotel. After checking in on Saturday, we had lunch at a nearby restaurant then did the hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus tour, which took us to the Colosseo, Piazza Venezia, Vaticano, Termini and Piazza Barberini. The highlight of our hotel was the blue-lit Jacuzzi on the rooftop with views of Piazza Venezia right under the stars in the night sky! On Sunday, we didn't miss to have a huge portion of italian ice-cream at Piazza Barberini. After which Caroline got a portrait painting of herself done on the spanish terrace (Piazza del Popolo). We spent the rest of the hot afternoon resting on the Villa Borghese park. We ate pizza before flying back to Dublin. A web album will follow soon... Es ist schon eine Woche her seitdem wir wieder aus Rom da sind. Obwohl wir nur eine Nacht dor...

After two days in the heat of Rome (26 degrees), we're now back in actually sunny Dublin. Nach zwei Tagen in der Hitze (26 Grad) der "ewigen Stadt" Rom sind wir nun zurück im eigentlich sonnigen Dublin.

We will be visiting Italy for the very first time on the upcoming weekend. A short city break will bring us to Rome.  Wir sind am kommenden Wochenende das erste Mal in Italien. Ein kleiner City Break in Rom.  

Jethro Tull played an amazing and sold out gig at Dublin's National Concert Hall last Friday. All hits were included in these 2 hours. Just to highlight two - 'Thick As A Brick' (an incredible progressive version) and 'Aqualung'. Please see the full set list below. We shared a wonderful live experience last Friday when we saw German band Söhne Mannheims at sold out London theatre Koko. A performance from these guys is highly recommended. Photos to follow soon. Am vergangenen Freitag konnten wir ein sehr schönes Live Konzert erleben. Die deutsche Band Söhne Mannheims gab ein ausverkauftes Konzert im Londoner Koko. Eine Performance dieser Jungs ist absolut empfehlenswert. Fotos folgen bald. 

Award-winning, German, Soul/Hip Hop/Funk ensemble Söhne Mannheims will kick off their European Tour 2011 in Milan/Italy tomorrow. This tour will lead them through all major cities across Europe before going on an arena tour throughout Germany later this year. On Friday, March 4th, 2011 the tour stops at London's " Koko ". We will not miss this opportunity to see Xavier Naidoo and Co. live in concert.     Das preisgekrönte, deutsche Soul/Hip Hop/Funk Ensemble  Söhne Mannheims startet seine Europa-Tour morgen in Mailand/Italien. Diese Tour wird die Band durch alle wesentlichen Metropolen Europas führen bevor sie im Herbst auf grosse Arena-Tour durch Deutschland gehen. Am Freitag, den 4. With a bit delay...here is our Cardiff report. On Saturday, February 12th, 2011, our journey to Welsh capital Cardiff took off at 10am with Aer Lingus Regional and after a short flight of 50 minutes we safely arrived. Cardiff is a small capital with a population of around 300,000 and the whole city centre could be discovered by feet. We decided to join a "Hop on, hop off" sightseeing tour which covered all major sights such as University of Wales, Cardiff Castle etc. Another interesting thing is that all small shops that are based in the City Centre can be found in small arcades. Following the sightseeing tour we checked in Novotel Hotel and finished the day with spa in the hotel and dinner in the City Centre. Sunday was wet and windy, therefore we couldn't do much in the city. On late afternoon, Aer Lingus Regional brought us back to Dublin. We're back in Dublin after a very nice weekend in Welsh capital Cardiff. As you might know us by now, a report and some pictures to follow soon. Nach einem sehr schönen Wochenende in der walisischen Hauptstadt Cardiff sind wir nun wieder in Dublin. Vielleicht kennt Ihr uns nun schon einwenig und wisst das ein Bericht und Fotos schon bald folgen.

On the upcoming weekend we'll head off for a city break to Walsh capital Cardiff.   Am kommenden Wochenende geht es auf zu einem Citybreak in die walisische Hauptstadt Cardiff.

The General Election date has been brought forward to February 25th, 2011 after Brian Cowen's announcement to quit politics after 27 years in the  Dáil.    Das Datum der irischen Neuwahlen wurde nun nach vorn auf den 25. Februar 2011 gezogen. Brain Cowen hat gestern mitgeteilt, dass er sich aus der Politik komplett zurückziehen möchte. Er war 27 Jahre in der Dáil (Unterhaus der Regierung).

Our first trip in 2011 will take us to Walsh capital Cardiff on February 12th.   Der erste Trip im Jahr 2011 wird uns in Wales' Hauptstadt Cardiff am 12. Februar fuehren.

After the resignation of 6 ministers over the last couple of days, the Irish government set Friday, March 11th, 2011 as the date for a general election. More information here .  Nach Rücktritten von 6 Ministern in den letzten Tagen hat die irische Regierung nun Freitag, den 11. März 2011 bestimmt um Neuwahlen abzuhalten. In an effort to fight January blues back in Dublin, we spent this weekend reminiscing our last trip in Germany. Despite being a busy period for us - with Caroline working remotely some days- it was nice to spend time with family, especially since Sebastian hadn't been home for Christmas the past 8 years. The biggest achievement for us though, was the fact that we managed to register our Irish marriage in Dingelstädt, where both of us are now registered officially. As expected of German bureaucracy, there was a huge amount of paperwork involved, but we were successful. A highlight for Sebastian was the Subway to Sally concert in Erfurt that turned into a family event with 7 of us attending. This was Sebastian's 17th concert of this band! We "slid" into the new year in Dresden where we spent 3 nights with Sebastian's parents. Sebastian just installed a new Operating System that was released last October 2010: Jolicloud . Jolicloud is an Ubuntu-based Linux Operating System. It works with free software (in a cloud) and is similar to the highly anticipated, not yet released, Google Chrome OS. Jolicloud is fast, power efficient and ideal even for elderly net books.  Sebastian hat gerade ein neues Betriebssystem, welches im Oktober 2010 veroeffentlicht wurde, installiert. Es handelt sich dabei um Jolicloud . Jolicloud ist ein Ubuntu-basiertes Linux Betriebssystem. Es arbeitet mit freier Software (in der sogenannten 'Cloud') und ist aehnlich wie das heiss erwartete, aber noch nicht veroeffentlichte Google Chrome OS. Jolicloud ist schnell, energiesparend und ideal auch fuer aeltere Netbooks .

Not only Ireland can integrate roundabouts on their roads, sometimes no-one actually knows the sense behind.
